The present invention relates to an ink jet recording apparatus which ejects ink supplied from a main tank, via an ink supply needle provided in a case body, onto a recording medium, and more specifically, to an ink jet recording apparatus which can perform an initializing operation to cause ink in a case body to flow through an ink supply needle, and eject the ink from a recording head in response to a recording operation.
2. Description of the Related Art
In a known ink jet recording apparatus, when a power supply of the apparatus is switched on, or an initializing operation is started, ink in a case body is fed into an ink supply needle (hereinafter referred to as a xe2x80x9cfirst ink supplyxe2x80x9d), and ink in the supply needle is ejected from a recording head in response to a recording operation (see, for example, Japanese Unexamined Patent Publication No. 7-304071, pp. 6-7, FIG. 1). The ejection of the ink is started with the negative pressure in the case body (the negative pressure of the case body is relatively high) being greater than the pressure in a cap (hereinafter referred to as a xe2x80x9csecond ink supplyxe2x80x9d). When the ink is ejected from the recording head in response to the recording operation, an ink-filling chamber is left in the supply needle, and ink is then supplied from the second ink supply.
In the conventional ink jet recording apparatus, ink in the first ink supply is ejected from the recording head in response to a recording operation, and the ink ejected from the first ink supply is returned to the case body. Subsequently, the second ink supply is fed into the case body, and ink is then supplied from the second ink supply. The ejection of ink from the recording head in response to a recording operation is started with the negative pressure in the case body being relatively high. Therefore, ink of a relatively high concentration is supplied from the second ink supply.
Recently, ink has been supplied from a second ink supply, which is different from the first ink supply, in order to meet various demands, such as the demand for high-quality images, the demand for reduced power consumption, and the demand for high image formation speed.
